Want to become a trustee?
There are a few things you need to know!
- you must be 18 years or older to stand in elections
- be a consumer of electricity within the Counties Energy Trust district
- reside, and be recorded on the Parliamentary Roll as resident within the Counties Energy Trust district
- have two (2) people support your nomination, who are also consumers of electricity within the Counties Energy Trust district
TOP TIP:
The nomination paper can take time, so don’t leave it until the last minute. You will need to ensure you complete the paperwork and that it’s received by election services before the cut off! Including paying a $200 nomination deposit to election services who will also spot check that the two people seconding your nomination are a) consumers of Counties Energy network and b) have their name on the energy bill attached to the ICP that falls within the Counties Energy network.
The candidate profile statement and picture is optional but this is what voters will see – so think of it as a mini bio on who you are and why you think you’d be a great trustee! And remember to smile in your picture.

How to help your campaign?
Trustees are publicly elected every two years, that means you need to seek the support of friends, family/Whānau and neighbours to get the votes rolling in once your nomination is accepted.
Every consumer within the Counties Energy district will be sent out/emailed voting packs. These packs will include your statement and picture, along with any other person standing for election.
Make sure you have spread the word. You might do this via social media, billboards or posters, word of mouth and so on. Just remember, as it’s a public election there are certain rules you must follow.
For all the information you need, please read through our election pages and ensure you download the candidate packs.
It can feel like a lot but take it one step at a time and you’ll be fine!
